Lime funnel kiln at the Eskesberg

This historical industrial monument in the urban district of Wuppertal, Elberfeld-West (Varresbeck), probably dates from the years around 1850. Although the technique of the lime mining from limestone is already well-known since pre-Christian times, the lime production gained considerably more importance with the beginning of the industrialization. The lime funnel kiln at the Eskesberg is the last remaining big funnel kiln from that period.
